Class 1 is the common name for Category C+E: the lorry licence for a Category C vehicle towing a trailer over 750kg.
That includes articulated lorries and drawbar combinations. Your training develops the skills to manage the extra length, trailer movement and positioning these vehicles require.
C+E also gives you Category C entitlement, so you can drive rigid HGVs as well. It does not replace a separate bus or coach licence, or specialist training required for particular equipment or loads.

You can train for Class 1 without taking a separate Class 2 driving test first. You don’t need previous experience in a van or lorry.
